Overview
The following behaviors are considered criminal, or are severely punished, condemned, or restricted by some societies and religious doctrines. In contrast, Wellism does NOT consider them unethical or criminal.
[A more detailed justification will be provided soon. Briefly: If a behavior is consensual, non-violent, and does not come at the expense of the wellbeing of others, then Wellism does not consider it immoral or criminal — even if some cultures harshly punish or condemn it.]
Relationships and Sexuality
- Homosexuality and Same-sex relationship
- Cohabitation without marriage, and sex outside of marriage between consensual adults (premarital sex)
- Divorce
- Women dressing “immodestly”
- Interfaith marriage
Attitude towards Religion
- Blasphemy
- Atheism or agnosticism
- Apostasy
- Religious conversion
- Proselytization
- Alcohol consumption: Wellism does not oppose alcohol consumption if it is done with moderation and responsibility in a way that does not harm wellbeing.
Attitude towards the Government
In authoritarian states, criticism of political leaders may be criminalized as “insulting the leader” or “treason” . Wellism supports freedom of speech and so does not consider political criticism as unethical. (It does, however, explain why refraining from violent language, such as ridicule, usually leads to better results).
